Australia thrashed Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the 1st test at Galle
After surprisingly losing the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Australia maintained their dominance in the 1st test as they defeated the hosts by 10 wickets in a one-sided match. The match ended on day 3 despite a rain-affected day 2.
After opting to bat first, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 212 in 59 overs on day 1. Nathan Lyon picked up 5 wickets for Australia while Niroshan Dickwella was the top scorer for Sri Lanka with 58 runs off 59 balls.

In reply, Australia posted 321 runs with Cameron Green (77) and Usman Khawaja (71) as the top scorers. For Sri Lanka, Ramesh Mendis was the top wicket-taker with 4 wickets to his name. Sri Lanka were then bowled out for just 113 in their second innings with 4 wickets each by Nathan Lyon and Travis Head. Australia then chased down a target of 10 runs in just 4 deliveries, winning the match by 10 wickets.
With this win, Australia have maintained their spot on the top of the WTC Points Table, still undefeated in this WTC cycle. Sri Lanka on the other hand continues lagging at 6th place with a PCT of 47.62 in 7 matches. While talking about the test series, Australia have a lead of 1-0 in the two-match test series against Sri Lanka. The second test will be played from July 8th at Galle.
