R Ashwin was the star of day 3 as he scored a brilliant hundred to set a mammoth 482 run target for England.
Ashwin got help from his skipper Virat Kohli who missed out on his century as he was out for 62. The two paired up to add 96 runs for the seventh wicket partnership after the Indian top-order collapsed in the morning session.
Ashwin came in when India were struggling at 106/6 with Virat Kohli still at the crease. The local Chennai boy swept his way to a majestic hundred and dominated English bowlers from ball one.
After Kohli got out, it looked as if Ashwin may not get to his century but Mohammad Siraj supported him well.
India gave a 482 runs task to England after Ashwin was finally dismissed.
England lost three wickets in the last 30 minutes of the play including both openers and nightwatchman Jack Leach. Joe Root survived a close call at the end of the day. Root and Dan Lawrence will be at the crease when they will enter ground to resume the chase at 53/3.
