Asia Cup was launched in 1983 with the foundation of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The first Asia Cup was played in 1984 in the United Arab Emirates. India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka participated in the tournament. Team India emerged as the winner of the inaugural edition, while Sri Lanka was the runner-up.
To date, 15 editions of the tournament have been played. The ongoing 2023 Asia Cup is the 16th edition of the prestigious tournament. Sri Lanka has played the most Asia Cups (15) followed by India, Pakistan and Bangladesh (14 each).
India has won the Asia Cup seven times, Sri Lanka has won six times, and Pakistan has done it twice.
