Openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave a terrific start as India scored 101/1 in the first session of the historic pink ball test being played at Carrara Oval, Queensland in Australia.
After being put in to bat first, in an unlikely scenario, Mandhana started the innings aggressively while Shafali took time to get into the groove. The lefty opener slammed boundaries off any opportunity she was getting. Mandhana reached her fifty in the 15th over only.
Despite being dropped once, Shafali didn't look as much comfortable at the crease as her partner and got out after scoring 31 and sharing a 93 run stand for the opening wicket.
Poonam Raut joined Smriti at the crease and defended her way to the first session. Sophie Molineux was only successful in the session for Australia.
Brief Scorecard:
India - 101/1 in 33 overs (Smriti Mandhana - 64*; Sophie Molineux - 1/18)
