The defending champion Sri Lanka will take on arch-rivals Bangladesh in the first Group B match of the Asia Cup 2023 to be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele on Thursdays (Aug.31). Dasun Shanaka will be leading the Sri Lanka team while allrounder Shakib al Hasan will lead the Bangladesh side.

Sri Lanka, co-hosting the tournament with Pakistan, suffered big blows as injuries forced them to drop two key players at the last minute.Leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga and fast-bowler Dushmantha Chameera will sit out the tournament after being named in the original 15-member squad but Shanaka said his team remained confident.
