The 2022 season of the Ranji Trophy is likely to begin in the second week of February. The dates and schedule are yet to be confirmed however the tournament will be played in two phases.
"The board has decided to conduct the Ranji Trophy this season in two phases. In the first phase, we plan to complete all matches of the league stage while the knockouts will be held in June," BCCI secretary Jay Shah said.
"My team is working closely to mitigate any kind of health risk caused by the pandemic, while at the same time ensuring a highly competitive red-ball cricket contest," he added.
The BCCI office-bearers had a meeting on Thursday to explore ways to revive the domestic season amid the covid outbreak in India. The tournament got postponed indefinitely earlier this month due to the third wave of the virus across the country.
The Ranji Trophy was cancelled for the first time in its 85-year history in 2020-21 for the senior men and many players struggled financially.
