A power-packed top-order performance helped England beat India by six wickets in the 2nd ODI and level the three-match series 1-1.
Chasing a target of 337, England openers - Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy - put on 110 runs for the first wicket in 16.3 overs before a misjudgment between the two found both of them strangled in the middle of the pitch. Roy got run-out after scoring 55.
However, Bairstow continued his carnage as Ben Stokes came into partner him. The pair added 175 runs in the next 117 deliveries. There was absolute mayhem as none of the bowlers could stop the two in clearing the boundary.
Stokes missed out on a well-deserved hundred as he gloved-one to the keeper on 99. He scored his 50 in 40 balls and smashed the next 49 runs in 12 balls. The all-rounder hit four fours and 10 sixes.
Bairstow was next to depart after scoring 124 from 112 balls with the help of 11 fours and seven sixes. There was a bit of hope in the Indian camp as Prasidh Krishna yorked Jos Buttler in the same over.
However, Dawid Malan and debutant Liam Livingstone safely reached the target to take the series into the decider in the 3rd ODI.
Earlier, KL Rahul's century and Rishabh Pant's 77 helped India reach 336/6 in the first innings. Virat Kohli got 66 and Hardik Pandya provided the late finish with his 16-ball 35.
Brief Score:
India - 336/6 (KL Rahul - 108, Rishabh Pant - 77)
England - 337/4 in 43.3 overs (Jonny Bairstow - 124, Ben Stokes - 99)
