Indian bowlers were on top in the first session as they reduce England to 80/4. 

Axar Patel took two wickets including Jonny Bairstow for a duck and Zack Crawley, who scored 53. R Ashwin and Ishant Sharma picked a wicket each. 

England captain Joe Root won the toss and opted to bat first in the newly built and named Narendra Modi Stadium. 

Dom Sibley was out in the third over after he edged one to the slips off Ishant Sharma, who is playing his 100th test match today. Bairstow was out on the first ball of Axar Patel's spell. 

Joe Root and Zack Crawley stitched a 47 run partnership for the third wicket. Ashwin removed Root LBW. 

Crawley soon followed his skipper back to the pavilion after scoring a fluent 53 with the help of ten fours. 

Ben Stokes and Olie Pope are currently at the crease.
