England won the first test match at Chennai by 227 runs to lead the series 1-0 against India on Tuesday. India got bowled for 192 chasing a mammoth total of 420 on day 5. 

Jack Leach took four wickets in the fourth innings while James Anderson picked up three. Virat Kohli top-scored for India with his fighting 72 however couldn't get much support from the rest of the batsmen. Shubman Gill got out as soon as he reached his fifty. 

For England, Joe Root smacked 228 in the first innings and a quickfire 40 in the third.
