Vijay Hazare Trophy: Chasing a mammoth 331 runs to win, Uttar Pradesh eventually fell short by 58 runs as Maharashtra registered a win to qualify for the semi-finals. For Maharashtra, Ruturaj Gaikwad was the hero with the bat while Rajvardhan Hangargekar stepped up with the ball to register a win in the knockout game.
While UP lost opener Madhav Kaushik (10) in the 9th over, Aryan Juyal showed impressive batting on the other end to keep UP more or less in the hunt. But none of the other batters could step up to support Juyal.
Towards the end, Shivam Sharma scored 33 runs off 41 balls has etched a partnership of 112 runs off just 89 balls with Juyal for the 8th wicket. Aryan Juyal scored 159 runs off 143 balls with 18 fours & 3 sixes but was finally dismissed in the 47th over which ended UP's hopes of making it into the semi-finals.
For Maharashtra, S S Bachhav and SM Kazi also grabbed two wickets each while Md Ingale managed 1 wicket apart from Hangargekar's impressive bowling. ComsnIn the first innings, Ruturaj Gaikwad played a blinder of innings as he smacked his first List A double ton.
Moreover, Gaikwad smacked 7 sixes in an over by Shiva Singh in the 49th over, collecting 43 runs of an over including a no ball. Courtesy of Gaikwad's monstrous knock, Maharashtra posted 330/5 in 50 overs. This match was played at Narendra Modi Stadium Ground 'B', Motera.
