IND vs SL: If performing in a match and getting benched in the next game is an art, then wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav is the artist. After taking a 5-fer in the 3rd T20I, the spinner was yet again dropped from the 1st ODI against Bangladesh. However, the spinner received an opportunity in the 2nd ODI and grabbed 3 wickets in his first 5 overs.
After Yuzvendra Chahal attained a shoulder injury while fielding in the 1st ODI, Kuldeep Yadav was brought in for the 2nd ODI. Debutant Nuwanidu Fernando and Kusal Mendis were going strong, adding 73 runs for the 2nd wicket after Sri Lanka lost their first wicket in the 6th over.
The duo seemed to be taking the game away, Kuldeep Yadav was brought in to bowl his first over in the 17th over, where he removed Kusal Mendis on the last delivery of the over via LBW. In his 4th over, the spinner cleaned up in-form Dasun Shanaka (2), dealing a big blow to the Lankan batting.
In his next over, Kuldeep caught and bowled Charith Asalanka, reducing Sri Lanka to 126/6 in 24.2 overs. While writing this piece, Sri Lanka are at 158/7 with Chamika Karunaratne (10*) and Dunith Wellalage (10*) at the crease for the visitors.
Earlier, Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss & opted to bowl first against India in the 2nd ODI. Sri Lanka needs to register a win in this match to stay alive in the 3-match series. This match is being played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
