Ireland will clash in the 2nd T20I against South Africa to level the 2-match series.
Reeza Hendricks was the star with the bat for Proteas as the opener smacked 74 runs in 53 balls with 10 fours & a six. Aiden Markram also played a quick and impactful knock of 56 runs in 27 balls to take South Africa past the 200-run mark. Tristan Stubbs and Dwaine Pretorius also showered boundaries in the death overs to finish off well.
The South African bowlers managed to get rid of most of the Irish batters early except Tucker and Dockrell and managed to restrict Ireland 21 runs short of the target while picking up 9 wickets. Captain Keshav Maharaja, Wayne Parnell and Tabraiz Shamsi picked up 2 wickets each while Lungi Ngidi and Dwaine Pretorius grabbed 1 wicket each.
Lorcan Tucker almost took Ireland to a historic win with his tremendous 38-ball-78 with 7 fours & 5 sixes. George Dockrell also blasted 43 runs in 28 balls but lack of support from other batters eventually meant defeat for Ireland, who will now fight out in the 2nd T20I and level the series. Names like Paul Stirling, Andrew Balbirnie and George Dockrell would have to shine with the bat for the Irish.
The hosts' bowling attack was taken for a thrashing by the Proteas as the opposition scored 211 runs for just 5 wickets in 20 overs. Gareth Delany was the top wicket-taker with 2 wickets but he also went for 31 runs in 3 overs.
