Virat Kohli and R Ashwin gave a good demonstration of how to bat on day 3 of the turning Chennai pitch after England spinners pick six Indian wickets in the first session.
Resuming the day at 54/1, Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara were sent back to the pavilion within 15 minutes of the play. Pujara got run-out after he failed to get back to the crease before the short-leg fielder threw the ball to the keeper who flicked the bails off.
Rohit got stumped to a ball that turned and beat Sharma. Ben Foakes was quick to remove the bails. Rishabh Pant was out in a similar fashion when he tried to once again hit Jack Leach for a six but missed the ball. Ben Foakes made a brilliant stumping to remove Pant.
Ajinkya Rahane tried to play in a similar fashion as he did in the first innings but this time gave a catch to short leg fielder. Axar Patel also attempted to dig in with Kohli but got struck in front off Moeen Ali's straight ball.
R Ashwin came with a proactive approach and swept his way to an unbeaten 34 at Lunch. Virat Kohli looked comfortable with his defense. He is not out at 38.
Brief Score - 156/6 (Virat Kohli - 38*; Jack Leach - 3/63)
