Devon Conway's 63 powers New Zealand to 173/7 against Pakistan in the first innings on Tuesday at McLean Park, Napier.
Earlier, Pakistan captain Shadab Khan won the toss and opted to bowl first. Both the teams had a decent start in the powerplay as Kiwis hit 47 runs but also lost the wickets of Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson.
Conway, during his knock of 63 off 45 balls, smashed seven fours and a six. Phillips supported him well with his 31 runs with the help of four boundaries. Scott Kuggeleijn gave the finishing touch to get the team past 170 runs.
For Pakistan, Faheem Ashraf was the pick of the bowlers picking three wickets in his four overs while conceding 20 runs.
