Punjab Kings Hat Tricks: The Indian Premier League is the first ever franchise cricket tournament that started back in 2008. Since then, it has become the world’s biggest cricket league across the globe. It started with a total of 8 teams in the competition, which was increased to a ten-team competition. Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) are one of the first teams to take part in this tournament.
However, they are also one of the few teams that have not won the tournament since the very start. It won’t be a wrong statement to say that PBKS is the most underperforming team in the competition, having made the playoffs only twice in 16 seasons. They made the finals in 2014 but ended up losing. Kolkata Knight Riders won that season. But still, PBKS holds some unique records in the IPL.
Punjab Kings: Most Hat-tricks In the IPL
Though PBKS has not achieved much in the IPL as a team, individually, there have been many incredible performances and records registered by them. One of the top records is that they are the only team that has recorded the same player in one season. In the 2009 edition, Yuvraj Singh took two hat-tricks for them.
He took hat-tricks against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Deccan Chargers. No one has repeated that feat again. In 2016, Axar Patel took hat-tricks against Gujarat Lions, and Sam Curran took one in 2019 against Delhi Capitals. With this, PBKS holds the record for the joint-most hat-tricks in the IPL.
PBKS and RR have registered four hat-tricks each in the IPL. Not just this, PBKS, along with Mumbai Indians, have conceded the joint-most hat-tricks in the IPL. In 2008, CSK pacer L. Balaji, Amit Mishra from Deccan Chargers in 2011, and in 2013, KKR’s Sunil Narine took a hat-trick against Punjab.
