In the warm up match of T20 World Cup 2022, South Africa registered a dominating 9-wicket win against New Zealand. Keshav Maharaj picked up 3 wickets while Rilee Rossouw smacked an unbeaten half-century to help South Africa clinch an easy win.
Chasing a meagre target of 99 runs, openers Reeza Hendricks and Rilee Rossouw etched an opening partnership of 66 runs in 6.5 overs before Hendricks was dismissed by Ish Sodhi. Aiden Markram joined Rilee in the middle as the later continued to smack the New Zealand bowlers.
Rilee finished unbeaten on 53 runs off 31 balls with 9 fours & a six as South Africa chased down the target in 11.2 overs with 9 wickets in hand. Aiden Markram went not out on 7 runs off 13 balls.
In the first innings, New Zealand succumbed against the South African bowling as only two batters were able to cross the 20-run mark – Martin Guptill (26 runs) & Glenn Phillips (20).
For South Africa, spinner Keshav Maharaj was the top wicket-taker with 3 wickets to his name. Wayne Parnell and Tabraiz Shamsi picked up 2 wickets each while Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram and Kagiso Rabada managed 1 wicket each as New Zealand were bowled out for 98 runs in 17.1 overs.
Earlier, South Africa captain David Miller won the toss & opted to bowl first against New Zealand in T20 World Cup 2022 warm up match. This match was played at Allan Border Field, Brisbane.
