After winning the toss South Africa came to bowl first where the spinner Keshav Maharaja struck 2 wickets of 27 runs at a time when the Netherlands was looking in a good position with 97/1 till the 13th over.

Spearhead Anrich Nortje demonstrated his form and bowled at an economy of 2.50 where he got 1/10. Aiden Markram scalped the opening wicket in the form of Stephan Myburgh. Markram ended with 1/16 in 2 overs.

In the first half ace South African pacer Kagiso Rabada looked tedious as he bowled at an economy of 12.30 and leaked 37 runs in 3 overs.
