After losing the first test, the New Zealand team fought hard on Day 1 despite early wickets and managed 318 runs for 4 wickets at Stumps on Day 1. 

Daryl Mitchell (81*) and Tim Blundell (67*) are at the crease for the hosts with an unbroken partnership of 149 runs between them for the 5th wicket. Earlier, opener Will Young scored 47 runs & Devon Conway scored 46 runs batting at #3. 

For England, James Anderson and captain Ben Stokes were the only wicket-takers with 2 wickets each to their name. 

New Zealand have the better of day one.
