WATCH: Trevor Chappell Bowled An Underarm Delivery On This Day In 1981
On this day in 1981, Australia's Trevor Chappell bowled an underarm delivery against New Zealand on the last ball of the match that led to a massive sporting controversy.
It was in the 1980-81 World Series' third final where New Zealand needed six runs to tie the match but Chappell bowled an underarm bowl, which was legal at that time, to stop Brian McKechnie to hit a six.
Despite Chappell's legal action, the spirit of cricket was questioned and the rule got changed which completely banned underarm bowling by the ICC.
