Women's T20 World Cup: England Women's Team started their T20 World Cup campaign with a win over Ireland by 4 wickets at Boland Park, Paarl.
After batting first Ireland got bundled out for 105 in 18.2 overs due to fine bowling by Sophie Ecclestone and Sarah Glenn who scalped 3-3 wickets each. Charlotte Dean grabbed 2/26 and Lauren Bell, and Katherine Brunt dismissed one-one batter each.
Ireland's batters started well as Gaby Lewis (36 runs) and Amy Hunter (15) paired 35 runs opening stand. But soon after both the batters departed, Irish batting collapsed like a castle of cards.
Seven of the Irish batters couldn't able to get to the double-digit mark which resulted in them putting a low total on board.
England batters came to chase a low total but they went through a bit of struggle as the team lost Sophia Dunkley in the first over of the match. Wickets were felling in quick succession but all thanks to Alice Capsey who scored a brilliant 51 runs on just 22 balls with 10 fours and 1 six. Due to Capsey's profound batting England earned crucial points in the group.
For Ireland, Cara Murray was the showdown player who glared in front of the strong English batting. Cara clinched 3 wickets by giving just 15 runs in 3 overs. Apart from her Arlene Kelly and Orla Prendergast got a one-one wicket each.
