Kyle Jamieson started the proceedings drawing an edge off Virat Kohli's bat to send the Indian skipper packing on 13. In the next over, Cheteshwar Pujara too edged one to the slips as India got reduced to 72/4.
Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant struggled to survive but added crucial 37 runs from 75 balls. When the two began to play shots, Rahane nicked one off Trent Boult.
In the final 20 minutes before the lunch, Pant and Ravindra Jadeja looked to score aggressively. While the wicketkeeper is on 28, the latest to become the no.1 test all-rounder has scored 12 from 20 balls.
India currently leads New Zealand by 98 runs with more than 70 overs still to play.
