Pandya, who led Gujarat Titans to the Indian Premier League championship in their debut season, is the favorite to take over in the shortest format. Jasprit Bumrah, another potential candidate for captaincy, is now sidelined due to injury, so it's unclear what will happen when he rejoins the squad.
With Pandya being developed with the upcoming T20 World Cup which is to be held in 2024 in West Indies and the United States, the Board may decide to keep Rohit as captain for the upcoming 50-over World Cup on home soil despite his advanced age of 35.

Many of the players who might be vying for positions in the white-ball lineup are currently in New Zealand and want to demonstrate their skills.
