Amir Hussain, Captain of the Jammu and Kashmir State Para-Cricket Team is a specially abled cricketer who lost his both arms in an accident at the tender age of 8. A big cricket buff from childhood days, Amir’s life story is an example of sheer grit and will power who never bowed down to the circumstances and walked on fighting against all odds and eventually emerged victorious. “A cricketer with no arms, it’s a first for everyone”, says Amir, who has decided to ask all the cricket lovers in the country to help him support his dreams of playing cricket for India.

The accident changed the life of Amir as his dreams shattered away by this unfortunate incident. His family faced a tough time who sell everything to pay for his treatment. Once the life of his area, Amir received cut off from his friends and neighbors but his family stood with him. A big fan of Sachin Tendulkar, Amir decided to live by example and worked hard on his game. He learned how to hold a bat between his neck and shoulders. He also mastered the art of bowling without hands and now delivers the ball with his feet. Amir also learned a spinning technique, using his toes in this process.

It was in his college that one of his professor suggested him to try out for the state para-cricket team and he took the advice seriously. Since then Amir never looked back and proved that it is the determination and spirit that counts the most. His hard work paid soon when he was declared Captain of the Jammu and Kashmir State Para-Cricket Team. The day in Amir’s own words was the  “happiest day of his life”.

I had to face a lot of struggle, but I never gave up my dream to play for the National Team. Even ow, I face a lot of difficulties. I do not have proper equipment to continue my training. My state cricket team could not hire a coach,” says Amir. Despite being a well known face in the India Para Cricket circuit and wining admiration in various tournaments across the nation in cities such as Delhi, Mumbai and Lucknow, Amir faces severe financial stress. He cannot provide for his nutritional needs, let alone special care that he requires and the training equipment along with the transportation needed to aid his training. Presently, Amir cannot even meet his nutritional needs for sustenance, lack of which can prove to be dangerous. Indian Test captain Virat Kohli also tweeted about Amir's story and appreciated his determination.

“Amir ki Udaan” is an initiative undertaken along with Desired Wings (www.desiredwings.com/amirkiudaan), which intends to aid Amir financially and help him in hiring a professional coach. The fund raised will help him acquire much needed professional training equipment, special care and assistance in his day to day life.
