The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) is set to commence from March 16th as IPL 2021 finalists Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders will clash against each other in the opening fixture at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

 #5. Dinesh Karthik (1,297 runs)

The 36-year old keeper-batter ranks #5 on this list with 1,297 runs to his name 95 innings. The right-handed batter has smashed 122 fours and 56 sixes in the 787 balls he has faced in the death overs with a strike rate of 164.80. DK was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2022 mega auction at a price of Rs. 5.50 crores and will play the role of a finisher in the upcoming IPL season. 


#4. Rohit Sharma (1,481 runs)

Mumbai Indians' captain Rohit Sharma comes next on this list with 1,481 runs to his name in 86 innings. With 123 fours and 90 sixes, 'Hitman' has a strike rate of 181.27 in the death overs in the 817 balls he has faced and this is particularly impressive given that Rohit opens for MI in the IPL. The Indian captain was retained by MI at a price of 16 crores and the 5-time IPL champion will lead the side in the upcoming IPL season.


#3. AB de Villers (1,868 runs)

South African batting great AB de Villiers ranks #3 on this list of batters with the most runs in the death overs. The batting mastermind has 1,868 runs to his name in 81 innings, smashing 140 sixes and 135 fours at a strike rate of 222.91 and providing an awestruck finishing touch while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore. AB de Villiers retired from international cricket in 2021 and will be part of the RCB team as a mentor. 


#2. Kieron Pollard (1,932 runs)

West Indies' captain and T20 specialist Kieron Pollard ranks next with 1,932 runs in 119 innings. The 34-year old has a strike rate of 173.42 in the death overs with 125 fours and 137 sixes to his name. Pollard was retained by MI at a price of 6 crores and will continue playing for the most successful franchise in IPL history. 


#1. MS Dhoni (2,853 runs)

The most successful Indian and IPL captain MS Dhoni takes the #1 spot on this list as the best finisher in the IPL history. With 2,853 runs to his name in 150 innings, Captain 'Cool' has a strike rate of 174.81 in the death overs and has smashed 207 fours and 164 sixes. 'Thala' Dhoni was retained by Chennai Super Kings at a price of Rs. 12 crores and will be leading the defending champions in IPL 2022.
