Indian left handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan is popularly known as Gabber. During a  Ranji Trophy match for Delhi, he noticed that his team mates were quite tired and to make them feel energised, he started speakin famous dialogue from the bollywood movie Sholay. People forgot the incident but he got the nickname ‘Gabbar”.

Anil Kumble - Jumbo

Kumble’s nickname was coined by Navjot Singh Sidhu. During an Irani Trophy game Kumble was playing for Rest of India at Feroz Shah Kotla. Sidhu was standing at mid-on. One of the Kumble’s ball really took off on which Sidhu said ‘Jumbo Jet.’ While the ‘jet’ got dropped off, just the ‘Jumbo’ remained. Since than ‘Jumbo’ becomes the nickname of Kumble.

 

Harbhajan Singh - Turbanator

During the Border-Gavaskar trophy in 2001, Harbhajan took 32 wickets in 3 test matches and played a crucial role in India's victory in the series by 2-1. In the second and third test, Harbhajan took 13 and 15 wickets respectively and completely terminated the Australia's batting line-up. Australian media played with the word terminator and coined a new word “Turbanator” as he wears turban because of his Sikh background.

 

Virat Kohli - Cheeku

As a younng cricketer, he had big ears and was chubby. Moreover, he sported short hair and due to that one of the coaches thought that he looked like Cheeku rabbit from the Champak comics. So that’s how Virat got his nickname and it stuck with him from then.
