Fast Bowler Suspended For Applying Hand Sanitizer On Ball
Sussex County Club's fast bowler Mitchell Claydon has been suspended until further notice after he was accused of applying hand sanitizer on the ball during a game against Middlesex last month. Notably, he took 3 wickets in that game.
England and Wales Cricket Board(ECB) has begun an investigation regarding the case.
"Mitch Claydon is suspended pending the outcome of an ECB allegation of placing hand sanitizer on the ball in our match against Middlesex. There will be no further comment at this stage," said Sussex on their website.
According to ICC guidelines, the use of Saliva on the cricket ball is completely banned due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Although body sweat can still be applied on the ball, the use of any external substance is prohibited. Hand sanitizer is treated as an external substance.
Mitch Claydon has a decent record in the first-class cricket, where he has taken 310 wickets in 112 matches at an average of 31.90.
